Joining the likes of Edgar Allan Poe, Agatha Christie, and Jane Austen in Feel Every Yummy’s upcoming iOS/Android game Word Fighter, Homer will be bringing his epic poet skills to the table. this is the first edition to the Word Fighter of an author whose appearance and history is not fully known, which allowed FEY to have a little fun with Homer’s caricature. ”He reminds me of Ryu’s master” said Gian Cruz, co-founder and developer at Feel Every Yummy, “He’s this old muscular man in a toga and he has a blindfold. There was a rumor he was blind, so we went with it. He’s sort of our ancient powerful character”.

Here is the character description for Homer that CouchBound was given:
Although blinded by fate, Homer sees all and is a master of epic language. He draws upon his vast vocabulary to take down enemies, even seizing their powers for his own use. Mess with Homer, and there’ll be Hades to pay.
Recently, Word Fighter has had the honor of being chosen as one of the PAX 10, an honor given to 10 of the best independent game entries submitted to Penny Arcade before the event. Speaking with Cruz, I asked him about what it was like submitting his game to the PAX 10 at the last minute and subsequently being told that he would be going to Seattle to show it off.
“I knew about PAX 10, I just forgot that we could submit for PAX 10 because iOS games were eligible as well. June was when I found out we were going to go to Seattle”. I originally saw Word Fighter at PAX East this year as Gian was walking around the show floor showing it off to convention goers. However, it sounds like were it not for his game getting accepted, he wouldn’t have even gotten the chance to do that again.
“PAX was already sold out, so this was our only shot to go”.
For those who don’t know, being a part of the PAX 10 gives developers space on the show floor to demo their game. For a game in the thick of development, this can mean some major changes in the whole process. I asked Cruz how needing to have a demo ready for PAX to show off to people at a booth had affected the game’s development and push towards release. “A lot is on the line right now. PAX is our best time to shine and we need to make sure we have a kick ass demo by the time that event rolls around. And so we need to really be diligent about staying on task.”
When I expressed my curiosity on if this was going to push the game’s final release date back, Cruz was forthcoming. “To be honest, we’ve fallen behind”. He mentioned that he and his partner were holding off on implementing new features into the game in order to make the they have as polished an experience to demo as possible. “If we didn’t get into PAX (10) we were going to push for a late August/early September release date”. Cruz now states that they are shooting for a fall release.
So if you plan on being in Seattle during PAX East, stop by the Feel Every Yummy booth to check out the latest build of Word Fighter, available later this fall on iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
